The Problem with Romney

This video illustrates the problem with the Romney Presidency. Whether you agree or disagree with the Occupy movement, one thing is clear Occupy points out the inequity and problems in our current system. When Romney is asked about these issues, his response is more telling then America is right and you are wrong, it illustrates that he believes their are no issues which need to be addressed in our current economic system. It is hard for me to believe that with out current economic system, high rate of unemployment and growing foreclosure rates that he doesn’t believe their is a problem. I have watched the debates and listened to Governor Romney speak many times, and honestly outside of him wanting to be President, I have not seen him articulate his vision of America. Not only that he is a staunch defender of the status quo. The fact is America has progressed, we use to tax the wealthy at over 75%, and most recently under Clinton at 40%, and Capital Gains at 25%. Now, the wealthy are taxed at 34% for income and 15% for Capital Gains. But not only does he defend Corporations and the Status quo, he honestly believes he is one of the people, that he is the middle class. Last year he made close to $375,000 in speaking fees and paid an effective 15% tax rate, and he believes that this was not only not a lot of money, but an effective tax rate of 15% was normal as well. Not realizing that families with a combined income or $100,000 in the US pay an effective tax rate of 22%-25%. These are families in two income household.  What really puts him out of touch, is that he says he is unemployed, making millions per year with an effective tax rate of 15%, while other hard working Americans who are working multiple jobs to put food on the table are paying an effective tax rate of 22%-25%. The issue that divides Democrats and Republicans, is that Democrats feel Romney and his type should be taxed more, whereas Republicans don’t begrudge Romney for not paying enough taxes, they believe they themselves are paying too much in taxes. But Romney never addresses this, in fact the only taxes he is looking to change is the elimination of the Capital Gains tax. Surprising from a man who receives most of his income in Capital Gains that his main platform is to eliminate his entire tax burdon altogether. If that isn’t self serving then I don’t know what is. Fact is Romney isn’t running for the 1%, he is only running for himself. He doesn’t care about anyone else, he wants to eliminate his tax burdon and that is it, that is his entire vision for the future, him not paying taxes. And if for some reason you don’t believe it, ask yourself this, if he is willing to strap his pet dog to the roof of his car for a 12 hour trip to Canada, this is a member of the family, what do we think he would be willing to do to the rest of us, people he doesn’t know?
