Their is an interesting debate going on right now, one which I feel is being ignored by everyone. Ron Paul has mentioned numerous times, that the United States is an “Empire”. The other Republican candidates tend to brush off this declaration, neither acknowledging it nor denying it. Ron Paul has gained numerous supporters who are staunchly opposed to Empire Building. The interesting thing is why aren’t more people opposed to Empire building? If you look at the establishment candidates, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorim, and John Hunstman and even President Obama, they are all for the expansion of the US Empire. See here in lies the problem with Ron Paul, I do not believe most people oppose an American Empire, in fact I believe most American believe it is part of the “American Exceptionalism.” And thus the untouched story, not that we are an “Empire” but do the American people benefit from that Empire? I believe most people understand and recognize we are an “Empire”, and I also believe one of the reasons people are so disillusioned with government is because they know they do not benefit from the US being an Empire. And why is that? Shouldn’t those responsible for helping to create the Empire also reap the benefits of that Empire? We provide the army to fight their wars, we build the ships, planes and other equipment used to fight those wars and spread American influence. But what are we getting in return? Fact is this is the untold story. Someone in this country is getting rich, making billions upon trillions of dollars off of our American Empire, and we are being told their isn’t enough left for the rest of us. What makes this story so interesting is that no one in politics is advocating for Americans to get their share of the American Empire, the only opposing view to the Empire, is Ron Paul to dismantle it. In fact the only voices advocating for their share are the Occupy Wall Street people, and they have been ignored and misunderstood. But isn’t it interesting how their message somehow resonated with people anyway. Anyway, I think what is so disappointing about this election is that every candidate, both democrat and republican are advocating for the status quo, to continue draining our Empire of valuable resources and money, and giving nothing back to the people who built it and make it run on a day to day basis.
